Basic Golf Etiquette: What Every New Golfer Should Know
Golf might look intimidating from the outside, but it doesn’t have to be.
If you’re new to the game, you’ve probably heard about ‘golf etiquette.’ But don’t worry, this isn’t about arcane rules or stiff traditions. It’s just about making the game enjoyable for everyone.
Here’s your simple guide to golf etiquette for beginners.
Be Ready to Play
Golf can be slow but, due to pace of play, you always need to be ready to go.
Have your club ready when it’s your turn.
Limit practice swings to one or two.
Keep up with the group in front.

Respect Other Players’ Swings
Silence is golden. When someone else is about to hit:
Don’t talk or shuffle around.
Stand still and out of their line of sight.
Phones on silent (save the Instagram stories for later).
It’s small things like this that keep golf enjoyable and fair for everyone.
Take Care of the Course
Looking after the course is part of the deal:
Replace any divots you make.
Repair pitch marks on the green.
Rake bunkers after you’ve played your shot.
